Alaska Glacier Trip

Six nights/ seven days sailing through breathtaking South East Alaska. While on this trip you will have the opportunity to whale watch, view sea lions, bird watch, see glaciers and icebergs, go on nature hikes, forage for wild edibles, fish for salmon (halibut is additional cost), and kayak in the wilderness.

This trip picks up in Juneau and drop off in Juneau.

Day One.
Pick up in Juneau. Sail and anchor in Taku Harbor for the night 20 miles approximately 2.5 hours underway.  Enjoy the scenery and look for bears that frequent this harbor.

 

 

Day Two.

Have breakfast underway to our next anchorage at Tracy arm entrance cove 26 miles approximately 3.5 hours underway.  Take the rest of the day to go Kayaking and hiking around this beautiful cove.

 

 

Day Three.

Travel in the early morning to Dawes glacier 25 miles about 3.5 hours underway depending on how thick the ice bergs are, arrive around mid day and spend the rest of the day kayaking or using the dingy to enjoy this spectacular place.  This is a tide water glacier which you can watch clave into the ocean, observe seals and their pups on ice bergs and take in all the wonder. Then relax and enjoy dinner underway to our anchorage at Tracy Arm Entrance Cove.

 

 

Day Four.

Sail to Snug Cove in Gambier cove 32 miles approximately 4 hours underway.  Enjoy the early morning sail.  After we anchor enjoy this beautiful cove full of streams to explore by kayak keep your eyes out for the resident brown bears.  Set a few crab and shrimp traps.  Enjoy the Alaskan Wilderness.

 

 

Day Five.

Sail to Good Island a short trip 5.5 miles about 45 minutes underway.  Anchor and explore this new area.  try your hand a salmon fishing!  enjoy another day surrounded by Alaskas beauty.

 

 

Day Six.

Sail to Taku Harbor for the night 44 miles underway approximately 5.5 hours underway.  Explore the land and all it has to offer.

 

 

Day Seven.

Head back to Juneau 23 miles about 3 hours underway. Catch your flight home.  Enjoy the sail back while watching whales, eagles and otters.

Juneau to Sitka Trip

Spend six nights/ seven days sailing South East Alaska. On this trip not only will you get to enjoy all the wonderful wildlife Alaska has to offer but you will also get to soak in some of Alaska’s healing hot springs, go Whale watching, birding, view sea lions, go on nature hikes, forage for wild edibles, fish for salmon (halibut is additional cost), kayak through the wilderness.

Day One.
Pick up in Juneau.  Meet the yacht and get settled for you week long adventure.  Relax and enjoy dinner while sailing to our first anchorage.  Keep a look out for humpback whales and Orca whales. We will sail 45 miles and anchor in Tracy Arm Entrance Cove for the night.

 

Day Two.
We will leave the anchorage early in the morning and serve breakfast while underway to anchor at the Gambier Bay.  This Bay has lots of bears and beautiful rain forest making it the perfect place!  We also often see whales and sea loins here.  Take the afternoon to kayak around this small cove or hike around it looking for wild edibles.

 

Day Three.
We will leave early in the morning and have breakfast underway to  Chapin Bay.  After our 3 hour sail we will all be ready to go kayaking or hiking, or just relax onboard and enjoy the whales, bears and eagles.

 

Day Four.
Enjoy a slow morning at anchor, go for a walk or kayak and watch the wild life wake up for the day!  Around lunch time we will head out for a short 3 hour sail to Warm Springs.  Take the rest of the day to relax in the amazing natural hot springs!

 

Day Five
We will leave early from Warm Springs and sail for around 6 hours to  Appleton Cove. This cove has a few streams and lots of wild life to watch, it is also a great place for a hike and kayaking.

 

Day Six.
Wake up for a majestic 3 hour sail through a narrow canal with views of wild life and amazing rock formations.  We will sneak our way into a tiny protected cove called Baby Bear Cove.  Enjoy the rest of the day exploring, fishing, kayaking and hiking.

 

Day Seven.
On the final day we will sail 30 miles to Sitka, this sail is very involved due to the narrow canals and steep rock cliffs on both sides.  Relax and enjoy your final day onboard.  Disembark in the afternoon in Sitka!!

Alaskan Village and Fishing Trip

Spend six nights/ seven days sailing through South East Alaska seeing all the wonderful wild life Alaska has to offer. Whale watching, birding, view sea lions, go on nature hikes, forage for wild edibles, fish for salmon (halibut is additional cost), kayak through the wilderness as well as visit 3 or 4 small village towns native to Alaska. If you enjoy nature but want the opportunity to see the sights and do a little shopping as well, this is guaranteed to be a trip you will never forget.

Day One.

Fly into Hoonah. Spend the afternoon walking around the village.  spend the night at anchor near the town.

 

Day Two.

Spend the morning sailing from Hoonah to Gustavus 22 miles approximately 3 hours underway.  Enjoy whale watching along the way.  Explore Gustavus in the afternoon.

 

Day Three.

Sail to Jacks Cove 17 miles approximately 2 hours underway.  Take a nice hike through the rain forest, do a little fishing for dinner and have a bond fire on the beach.

 

Day Four.

Enjoy Breakfast while sailing through south Inian pass 18 miles approximately 2 hours underway. Here you can see whales, sea loins and amazing scenery. Anchor in front of Elfin Cove and enjoy a nice lunch.  Spend the afternoon walking around a small board walk village.  Travel another hour to a secluded anchorage for the night.  This anchorage has a large salmon stream to fishing and some great bottom fishing near by.

 

Day Five.

Sail to Idaho inlet 22 miles approximately 3 hours underway, enjoy whales and sea otters along the way.  After lunch take a nice hike up a salmon river and catch a few nice fish or drop our crab and shrimp traps Walk thought fields full of wild flowers or kayak around the beautiful inlet!

 

 

Day Six.

Sail to Mud Bay 18 miles approximately 2 hours underway.  Spend the day exploring and fishing this hug river system.  There is great halibut fishing in the area.

 

Day Seven.

Sail back to Hoonah 26 miles about 3.5 hours underway. Catch your flight home. Have a last look at whales, eagles and the amazing vistas of Alaska!

Juneau to Ketchikan Trip

If you enjoy sailing, come spend thirteen nights / fourteen days sailing with Gypsy Wind from Juneau to Ketchikan. On this trip you will get to take some time to really enjoy the wilderness and wildlife Alaska has to offer as well as get some serious sailing time in. During this trip you will get to go Whale watching, birding, view sea lions, go on nature hikes, forage for wild edibles, fish for salmon (halibut is additional cost), kayak through the wilderness as well as through icebergs, and view some of the most beautiful glaciers you will ever see.

In the Spring this trip would pick up in Ketchikan and drop off in Juneau (North Bound).  In the fall we would pick up in Juneau and drop off in Ketchikan(South Bound).  In the itinerary below it will show the trip going South, the stops will all be the same in reverse if going North.

 

Day One.

Pick up in Juneau.  Sail for around 6 hours to our first anchorage.  While we sail enjoy dinner and as always keep a look out for whales!!

 

Day Two.

While eating breakfast we will sail to Dawes Glacier.  This is a tide water glacier,  we will be navigating through ice far before we can see the glacier. This is a great place to take a kayak out and enjoy some time near this majestic glacier.  Have dinner while underway to Wood Spit for the night.

 

Day Three.

Sail to Brothers Island, about a 5 hour trip. Have lunch at anchor. Take the afternoon to go kayaking, whale watching from the tender, fishing or exploring the island!

 

Day Four.

After a nice breakfast we will sail about 2 hours to Hey Bear Falls.  This is a nice anchorage with a hike that ends at Hey Bear Falls, a beautiful water fall!  There is also a big salmon stream here which makes it a great place to watch eagles and bear feeding.

 

Day Five.

We will leave in the early morning for a 6 hour trip to Portage Bay.  This bay has a old logging road with a small dock making it really easy to disembark from the tender and take a nice walk though the woods.  It is a very protected bay and perfect for exploring by kayak, take a fishing rod and catch arctic char!

 

Day Six.

In the morning we will head 22 miles to Baird Glacier.  We will anchor in Scenery Cove for the day and explore this glacier!!  Then head about an hour sail to a beautiful overnight anchorage.

 

Day Seven.

Have Breakfast underway to Le Conte Glacier about a 4 hour sail.  Take the day and explore another amazing glacier.  Then head to Ideal Cove for a quite evening.

 

Day Eight.

We will pick up the anchor early and get moving towards the Wrangle Narrows.  This is a very small and winding channel that is a challenge to navigate through.  It will take us about 6 hours to get though this area and too our next anchorage at St. Johns Harbor.  We will arrive just after lunch and have plenty of time to explore this area.

 

Day Nine.

Sail just over 5 hours to Olive Cove.  Take the afternoon to explore this area, there is a nice creek and meadow to walk through.  Take time to relax and enjoy!

 

Day Ten

Have Breakfast underway to Vixen inlet.  This sail is just under 5 hours, we will be anchored just before lunch.  This inlet is know for a large population of black bears.  Take the afternoon to observe these magnificent animal from a kayak, the dinghy or go for a walk around the meadows!

 

Day Eleven To Day Fourteen!

Sail  7 hours into Ketchikan.  This is where your trip will end.  There is still 3 Days left of your trip!!  Because of the large distance we have to travel we factor these extra three days in so we can wait out bad weather at any point during out trip.  If we are lucky and get good weather for the whole trip then you get to choose three of your favorite anchorages and stay an extra night!!

Supplies and Gear

Gear for alaska

Southeast Alaska is a beautiful place. It has one of two temperate rain forests in the world, this also means that it rains fairly often. There is no bad weather just bad clothing. It is very important to pack the correct gear to get the very most out of your charter in Alaska! Below is a packing list that we recommend you fallow as much as possible.

1. Rain Boots. You will use these everyday.
2. Rain jacket and rain pants.
3. A nice hat.
4. Sweat shirt or sweater.
5. A good camera, and or video camera.
6. Hiking stick if you have one you like, we can always make one here from a nice tree.
7. Warm cloths just in case it is cold or rainy out.
8. All you personal toiletries.
9. A sense of adventure!
